   Ammonium sulfate (NH4)2SO4 , containing about 20 % nitrogen , referred to as ammonium sulfate, commonly known as fertilizer field powder, is one of the earliest nitrogen fertilizer varieties used and produced in China, and currently accounts for 0.7 % of China's total nitrogen fertilizer production . The nitrogen form is ammonium ion (NH4+) , which is an ammonia nitrogen fertilizer.  Ammonium sulfate contains an anionic SO4- in the molecule, which is difficult to be adsorbed by soil particles. The absorption of ammonium ions by crops is more and SO4- remaining soil, so ammonium sulfate is a typical physiological acid fertilizer. Ammonium sulfate is applied on calcareous soil rich in calcium carbonate, and forms insoluble calcium sulfate with CaCO3 , which does not significantly affect the pH value of the soil .
