Photovoltaic power generation yield is limited by the quality of photovoltaic materials

Thanks to China's abundant light resources and frequent policy warming, China's photovoltaic industry has achieved rapid development in recent years. As of the end of 2015, the cumulative installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation reached approximately 43 million kilowatts, surpassing Germany to become the world's largest. However, the inexhaustible quality problems such as the accelerated degradation of power generation efficiency of components and the negative bias of components also cast a shadow on the sustainable and healthy development of China's photovoltaic industry.

According to a three-year study of global outdoor PV modules, over 41% of the components in the photovoltaic power generation project with installed capacity ranging from 1kW to 20MW in more than 60 locations around the world have appearance failure. Among them, 24% of the failures come from the battery, and the backplane failure ratio reaches 9%, which is the highest percentage of components except the battery. Therefore, as a protective layer of a photovoltaic module, the durability of the back sheet material is closely related to the decrease in battery performance and increase in power attenuation. This not only threatens the smooth operation of the power station for 25 years, it even induces industrial investment credit crisis and various cascading effects, making it harder for photovoltaic financing.

In fact, different weather types also put different tests on the weatherability of components. Prior to this, well-known experts and professional technicians from the industry visited 12 provinces across the country and conducted surveys on more than 20 photovoltaic systems and power stations and about 210MW of photovoltaic modules. The investigation found that there are certain differences and regularities in the attenuation and material aging of PV modules in different climate regions, especially in regions with diverse climate and complex terrain, the reliability of photovoltaic materials is even more important.

According to industry insiders, one of the methods to solve the problem of failure of components under various climatic conditions and protect the income of investors is to adopt a better backplane. Studies have shown that a DuPont film-based backplane has been widely validated for 25 years or even 30 years in various climate environments, which can effectively reduce the component power attenuation rate and security risks.

The realization of the optimal system value based on the cost of electricity (LCOE) depends on the components operating as expected, thus providing stable power output and long service life. Therefore, in the early stages of the project, the use of high-quality materials that have been validated by long-term outdoor performance is clearly used to ensure that the PV modules still perform excellently under all kinds of climatic conditions, and that they can help reduce end-users' cost of electricity generation and achieve unexpected expectations. Financial return. Therefore, from this perspective, the selection of high-quality photovoltaic materials and the creation of high-quality photovoltaic power generation projects are among the prerequisites for Chinese enterprises to actively deploy the global photovoltaic market.
