Careful identification of quality The quality of ammoniated straw is mainly identified by sensory. The ammoniated straw is brownish yellow, has a mushy aroma, and the ammonia smell is also strong, and the hand touch is soft. The color of the immature straw is as sweet as ordinary straw, the ammonia smell is lighter, and the texture does not change significantly. The old ammoniated straw becomes darker in color and the ammonia smell becomes lighter. If the plastic bag leaks the straw, it will be mildewed, the color will become white, gray, and even black and agglomerate with rot, so that the straw should not be used as feed.
Free feeding, proper amount of ammoniated straw is roughly the same as ordinary straw feeding, and advocates free feeding. With supplemental feed, due to the energy of ammoniated straw and the increase of non-protein ammonia, when feeding ammoniated feed, it should be properly matched with non-degradable protein such as bean cake, cottonseed cake and distiller's grains, and properly supplemented with vitamins and minerals. Feed to ensure the metabolic balance of the carcass.
The difference between the use of ammoniated straw can only be used as cattle and sheep ruminant livestock feed, the effect on pigs is very poor, and unweaned yak, lamb because the microbial ecosystem in the rumen has not yet fully formed, must be used with caution.
Observation and treatment If the cattle and sheep are found to have reduced or stopped ruminant due to improper feeding, excessive salivation, restlessness, trembling, gait instability and other symptoms of ammonia poisoning, stop feeding immediately and smash the cattle and sheep to the outdoor ventilated and cool place.
