Wearable technology for the future or for graphene silk

Graphene seems to be an omnipotent material. This new carbon-based material has great potential in various fields, such as battery technology and manufacturing of airships. In fact, graphene may also be the key to achieving breakthroughs in wearable technology in the future. Recently, a research team at Tsinghua University in Beijing used graphene to develop a conductive, more flexible silk. The researchers wrapped the leaves of feeding silkworms into carbon nanotubes and graphene, which increased the degree of peristalsis of silkworms to twice that of silkworms, and thus produced less easily broken silk.

The results of this research mean that scientists have found it possible to mix graphene and silk without using chemicals. However, they still need to find the best way to feed silkworms, so that carbon nanotubes can enter the silk to get the best results.

It is understood that this more flexible and conductive silk can be used for a series of wearable technologies, such as smart clothing and plant components. In addition, if graphene can be embedded in existing materials, it also means that this technology will become more environmentally friendly.
